Course description
IMPORTANT NOTE: This class was originally advertised incorrectly for 20th-21st June. Note that the correct dates are 11th and 12th July 2026. Sorry for any confusion. Our letter and sign carving class is the perfect introduction to making your own wooden signs with traditional carving techniques. You won't be using routers or any other machinery here - this course teaches you old-school carving with chisels, gouges and knives. We will teach you layout, typeface selection and the methods we use to to carve beautiful flowing letters. This course will also introduce you to various embellishment and finishing options for your signage - including the application of gold leaf and some methods of carved surface decoration for your background. This course is for anyone new to traditional sign carving - no previous experience is required. All tools and materials will be provided. This course is led by master violin maker and carving expert, Andrew Carruthers.
Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel a class please let us know right away. If a wait-listed student is ready to take your place we will refund the class minus a 4% cancellation fee to cover our banking costs. Otherwise our cancellation fees are as follows: Classes canceled 5 days or more before start date: Refund minus 10% cancellation fee. Classes canceled less than 5 days before start date: Refund minus 50% cancellation fee. Classes canceled less than 2 days before start date: No Refunds Given.
