Course description
The ageless craft of green woodworking uses unseasoned or ‘green’ wood (recently fallen) that is then worked using hand tools to create timeless furniture. Come and learn stool-making the Appalachian way with Dan Stalzer. Together, we will split a fresh Tanoak log and shape all stool parts sitting on a shaving horse, using a drawknife. You will learn to read the fiber of wood for strength, assemble your stool using mortise and tenon joinery, weave a seat (or make a solid one), and take home a stool that is unbelievably strong, yet lightweight and elegant.
