Wood Finishing - 1 Day Workshop

Course description

Applying a finish to your completed project is something that too may woodworker's know too little about. Many a wonderful crafted piece of woodwork is spoiled by a bad finish. This seminar will demystify wood finishing and give you the confidence to understand the things that really matter. We will be looking at proper lighting, color theory, understanding your substrate, surface preparation and how to choose an appropriate finish. We will be covering oils, varnishes, waxes, shellac....and much more. Your instructor for this course is internationally renowned, Ron Ashby. If there is anyone who knows more about wood finishing than Ron we have yet to meet them. Ron has over 50 years of experience in wood finishing (and re-finishing) and is the owner operator of Wood Finish Supply and www.shellac.net in Napa, CA. This course is suitable for all skill levels. Please note that this is not a 'hands on' course (you won't be making anything) - but the experience you will gain will serve you well in all your future projects. The cost of this course includes a bound book that we will give you to take home containing a wealth of finishing information and advice and some useful technical data sheets. We will also give you a few finishing supply samples. You do not need to bring anything to the class but if you did want to bring something small that you have made to have the finish evaluated you are very welcome to do so.
