Course description
Our introduction to veneering class is a great start to your veneering adventures but there is still so much more we can cover. With this advanced course we introduce many more creative opportunities for using veneer in your projects. We cover how to make your own beautiful veneer on the bandsaw from any piece of wood - even from your firewood pile. There are all sorts of advantages to making your own veneer but the main one is that you can have thicker veneer that is often easier to work with and more forgiving to knocks and scrapes. Once you know how to make your own veneer you will be able to use up all sorts of otherwise awkward offcuts - especially those with interesting grain or figure - and turn them into something really special. We look at the veneering of large surfaces, how to purchase and process veneer (including sequencing and numbering) and several different taping and edge gluing methods. We show you how to flatten stubborn veneer, sharpen a veneer saw, veneer onto curved surfaces and repair split or damaged veneers. We also include an in depth look at veneering adhesives and the use of veneer as edge banding. This course is aimed at students who have already completed our "Introduction to veneering" class or those who already have a good working knowledge of basic veneering.
