Course description
Create designs in wood! Marquetry is the art of creating imagery by cutting and fitting thin pieces of wood veneer together. These designs are then glued to a solid core to be used in making furniture or decorative panels. This class is appropriate for anyone interested in creating imagery in wood and is an opportunity to explore an ancient art form that has many practical uses as a design element in artwork created today. This is a hands-on class where you will teach you the "double-bevel" method. You will make marquetry designs using powered scroll saws - and we'll also show you how to accomplish the same results with hand tools. Workshop level: Prior woodworking experience is helpful, but not necessary. Participants who have an interest in drawing and sketching will especially enjoy the class because of the graphic nature of marquetry. For furniture makers, marquetry offers a chance to further enhance their work. The class runs from 9am to 5pm both days and is taught by marquetry expert, Matthew Werner.
